I have recently relocated to Omaha, NE from Storm Lake, IA and Ida Grove, both being my home for awhile. But I was just home in Ida Grove yesterday for Mother's Day and while I walked around the grocery store with my dad I was shocked to see how many people I knew, and how many of them had gotten fat. I was blown away. (Did you know by 2035 they predict over 60% of the nation will be obese. It's depressing) But I turned to my dad and asked, "Dad, when did everyone get so fat in IG?" his reply? "Nobody got fat, we've always been fat here" Which made him and I have a discussion of small town vs big city living. Why are people in smaller towns fatter than big city people?
Is it the social norm in small towns to not care about how you look as much as our fair "cosmopolitan" cities that care about how they look and judge each other by the number on the scale? Another thing I don't understand I have x amounts of options to eat fast food and unhealthy foods everyday, and every day is a struggle to say no. So shouldn't it be easier to be healthier in a town that has less options? Like out of sight out of mind?
I would love to see a study on this someday and see the results. But in any case I plan on going out today after work and making myself stay in the 40% of our future who will not tip those scary scales some day.

Color Run
Well - I just signed up for another 5k. Its called the Color Run and I'm totally amped up about it. It's a mix of awful and awesome- an explosion of color - and running...meh. I'm actually really excited to get back into this though. My team name is Run with the Winded, I also threw out color me badass but the other just stuck :)
If anyone is ever considering a great fun run to start you should really check this one out. They're doing some pretty amazing things out there to encourage fitness!

Kid at heart
Guess what! I did it.
I ate a veggie at dinner last night. I made broccoli with cheese and baked salmon topped with turkey bacon. I am probably going to be a 5 star chef soon. That's one day in the books and I am proud of myself.
But I had to rave about this. http://www.defygravityusa.com/
Remember being a kid and spending hours upon hours jumping with your friends, or going to your friends house to jump on their trampoline? God, that was hours of fun when I was young. Then I started to grow up and didn't find time to play, or I was too "cool" to go jump on a trampoline. How idiotic of me.
Well, I'm grown up now, and I am here to saying jumping on trampolines is cool. Plus you can burn a crap ton of calories doing it. I say this because I went to this awesome place in Papillion called Defy Gravity. Its an indoor jump house with TONS of trampolines put together to make one huge court. There is dodgeball, lazer tag, open jump, fitness classes, this place has everything you need to be a little kid and burn some calories doing it. I know this because I went earlier this week and within 15 minutes I was sweating like a pig and my boyfriend was ready to barf. I had tons of fun and enjoyed being active. I suggest anyone in the Omaha metro area go try this place out to see what it is all about. It wont be disappointing.

Backslider
Ok ok, I get it, I haven't posted in AGES. get off me. My life has been super busy, I recently started a new job, I'm now the Marketing and Competitions Coordinator for the Omaha Sports Academy...shameless plug. So I've been dealing with that a lot lately trying to fit in, which is pretty well honestly.
I love my job, who wouldn't love getting to spend all day immersing ones self in basketball. I've always lived and breathed sports, now I just get paid to do it, which I think makes me a professional athlete; maybe. But I'm rambling so I shall get to the point.
Backsliding.
We've all done it. I recently was watching a television show I have become obsessed with called, "New Girl" It is a witty comedy that makes me smile and I think everyone should watch it to be a little bit happier with their lives. I heard the term "backsliding" on this show while they were talking about relationships. I thought about all my past relationships and thought, oh crap, that's totally me. But I realized it wasn't with guys for the most part, but food.
How often do you get on "health kicks" where you decide you're going to pretty much become a rabbit for the next two months to see if that helps shed the pounds. Well, it works out great for about 3 weeks, then all you can think about is burgers, chips, chocolate, anything tasty, but totally awful for your body. You backslide, right into those indulgence foods and find yourself feeling awful, and REALLY gassy. I do it all the time. I went on a pitch of being vegetarian for about 2 months, and then it totally fell apart and I drowned in a pool of hamburger grease, milkshake residue, and other unholy things.
How do you fix these things? How do you decide to stop "kicking" yourself and decide to finally make a life change, to eat healthier everyday, not because you know it will help drop the pounds, but because you WANT to eat that food, you don't want to look down and see you at 2000 calories and that was just an appetizer. I'm looking for help doing this. I find myself eating well for days on end, I've even started to like fish, which is new for me. Only to turn around a week later to see a plate full of a 1/2 lb burger and 8 servings of fries, don't worry, we got dessert too.
HOW DO I CHANGE? Well, here is where the challenge begins, I'm going to try new things to help myself eat better and be healthier, not just so I can have a rockin' bod, but to live longer to enjoy bringing sexy back. I'm going to start by eating veggies at one meal a day, at least! I've read small changes make the difference so I'll start with this bad boy and see how it turns out.
Wish me luck
peace, love, and greaseless fingers
